The Talking Points program at the Cartoon Art Museum is a free after-school work-study program for San Francisco Bay Area high-school-age youth sponsored by the San Francisco Foundation. Classes meet once a week after school and on select Saturdays on-site at the Cartoon Art Museum near Mission and 3rd Streets in downtown San Francisco. Some students may be eligible to paid minimum wage through various city agencies to attend classes and work at the museum.
In this program students illustrate, design characters, and write stories. They also learn the principles of animation, Flash (digital) animation, Adobe Photoshop, sound recording, and video production. Students will work together in groups to produce public service announcements and other digitally produced animated and live action video spots. Upon completion of the Cartoon Art Museum Talking Points Program, outstanding graduates may be recommended for internships at professional Bay Area animation studios.
Successful applicants to this free, scholarship-based work-study program for the 2010–11 academic year will submit a completed application form on or before Friday, September 10, 2010, be interviewed in person, and demonstrate a strong interest in the course content (through your essay and interview) as well as financial need.
