Spend the day at Pixar Animation Studios
Annual Cartoon Art Museum Benefit

Saturday, December 10, 2011

UPDATE:  Here’s a list of some of the items that will be auctioned at the fundraiser (and in the weeks leading up to it).  PIXAR AUCTION

The Cartoon Art Museum, the only museum in the western United States dedicated to all forms of cartoons and comics, is delighted to host its eighth annual benefit at Pixar Animation Studios on Saturday, December 10, 2011. From its inception in 1986 with the premiere of its iconic short film Luxo Jr. to its most recent full-length feature Cars 2, Pixar has charmed the world with its incredible computer animated creations. This year, there are two new ways to experience the magic of Pixar up close and personal at the studio’s Emeryville home:

The Fan Tier
(11 a.m. — 4 p.m.)

The Fan Tier allows exclusive access to Pixar Animation Studios while helping to support the Cartoon Art Museum.  Guests may tour the studio’s main gallery and view pre-production artwork from Cars 2. In addition, Pixar artists will be on hand conducting drawing demonstrations. You may purchase special Pixar apparel and merchandise at the Studio Store as well as bid on original and signed art by Pixar creators and other auction prizes. The event also features a screening of select Pixar short films (including One Man Band, Day & Night, and the Oscar®-winning Tin Toy) in the studio’s state-of-the-art theater hosted by Dr. Michael B. Johnson (Pixarian and CAM board member), who will lead a Q&A session with several of the filmmakers.  The Fan Tier also includes light lunchtime snacks, treats, and a chance to meet and speak with Pixar creators.

Tickets are $250 per person, $200 for members of the Cartoon Art Museum*. (Become a museum member and save!)  Reserved rows for ten are available for $2,500. Doors open at 11 a.m. with the screening starting at 1 p.m. Treat your friends or employees to a day of animated fun.

To order tickets, please visit http://guestlistapp.com/events/73038

The VIP Tier
(11 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.)

In addition to all of the benefits of the Fan Tier, VIP guests will be escorted to Brooklyn, Pixar’s new facility, for a late afternoon tour and a screening of the studio’s latest animated short La Luna with director Enrico Casarosa in the Presto Theater. The day will finish with a wine and dessert reception.

Tickets are $500 per person, $450 for members of the Cartoon Art Museum*. (Become a museum member and save!  http://cartoonart.org/join-support/) Availability for this level is limited. Doors open at 11 a.m. with the screening starting at 1 p.m.  Treat your friends or employees to a day of animated fun.

Pixar Animation Studios is located in Emeryville, California.  Free parking is available on site.  For more information, call 415-227-8666, ext. 300.  To purchase tickets online, visit cartoonart.org. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

I just visited the Facebook CAM fanpage and I just read a post that said tickets are now on sale. I would like to know if the source is reliable because no news about tickets hasn’t been said on the CAM website.

Comment from Kim R

Wow-soo bummed you aren’t offering the family tier. Our family had a great time last year. Guess we won’t be attending this year!!

Comment from afarago
Time October 10, 2011 at 7:25 pm

Sorry we weren’t able to offer the family tier this year. Staffing, scheduling and lack of an outside sponsor for that level made it too difficult to host the family level this time.

But please keep in mind that the funds generated from this year’s event will allow us to continue offering our usual low-cost and free programming throughout the year, including visits from professional comic strip artists, comic book artists, animators and authors. We really appreciate the ongoing support of our friends and fans, and hope that you’ll keep an eye on the calendar for other events that interest you throughout the year.

We’re anticipating a sell-out, but how long tickets last will be up to the ticket buyers. We can sell them right up until the week leading up to the event, but we expect to run out before then.

Comment from Martin
Time October 11, 2011 at 1:53 am

About how many people/tickets will be sold this year? (How many attendees can we expect at this event?) Seems rather overwhelming.

Comment from Chris
Time October 11, 2011 at 1:28 pm

Is there an age limit for attendees (i.e., no one allowed under 18, 12, etc.)?

Comment from afarago
Time October 12, 2011 at 3:35 pm

The theater holds about 220 guests, so that’s the cap on our ticket sales. Of that group, only 40 people will be able to tour Pixar’s new building.

There are a number of activities that take place prior to the main screening, in the Pixar theater, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to take part in smaller events–and to check out the amazing original art display highlighting concept art and designs from Cars 2.

We’re hoping to bring some Pixar artists and other animators to CAM for other events throughout 2012, so please visit our website or sign up for our e-mail list for special announcements. The money generated from our Pixar fundraiser will allow us to continue to bring talented artists and host events at the museum throughout the next calendar year.

Comment from afarago
Time November 28, 2011 at 5:18 pm

You don’t need to be especially formal, but it is a fairly upscale event, so “dress nicely” is our recommendation. Anything you’d wear to church, Thanksgiving dinner or when visiting relatives that you’d like to impress should be fine.
