Spend the Day at Pixar Animation Studios

Saturday, May 17, 2014 2pm to 8pm

Tickets now on sale! Visit this link for details!   The Cartoon Art Museum, the only museum in the western United States dedicated to all forms of cartoons and comics, is delighted to host its tenth annual benefit at Pixar Animation Studios on Saturday, May 17, 2014, from 2 to 8 p.m. Beginning with the 1986 release of its iconic short film Luxo Jr. to last year’s box office hit Monsters University, Pixar has charmed the world with its incredible computer animated creations. This year, we welcome you to experience the magic of Pixar up close and personal at the studio’s Emeryville home.   Guests may tour the studio’s main gallery and view pre-production artwork from Monsters University. In addition, Pixar artists will be on hand conducting drawing demonstrations. You may purchase special Pixar apparel and merchandise at the Studio Store as well as bid on original and signed art by Pixar animators and other auction prizes.   The event also features a 10th anniversary celebration of the Academy Award-winning feature The Incredibles with several of the film’s creators in the studio’s state-of-the-art theater hosted by Dr. Michael B. Johnson (Pixarian and CAM board member), who will lead a Q&A session with the filmmakers in the Steve Jobs Theater, including: • Brad Bird, Director • Mark Andrews, Head of Story • Tony Fucile, Supervising Animator • Andrew Jimenez, Director of Photography • Ted Mathot, Storyboard Artist • Kevin O’Brien, Storyboard Artist   Please note: Guests are confirmed, however, an unexpected cancellation is always possible.   The event also features light snacks, treats, and will conclude with a wine and dessert reception by the Luxo Cafe staff with a live auction of a variety of original art and signed memorabilia. Tickets are $500 per person, $450 for members of the Cartoon Art Museum. (Become a museum member and save! http://cartoonart.org/join-support/membership/ Purchase one discounted ticket with a Senior/Student Membership, up to two with an Individual Membership, up to four with a Family Membership, up to six with a Friend Membership, and seven or more with a Patron, Sponsor and Benefactor Memberships.) Reserved rows for ten are available for $4,500.   Availability for this level is limited. Doors open at 2 p.m. with the presentation starting at 4 p.m. in the Steve Jobs Theater. Please note: The Cartoon Art Museum strives to create an enjoyable experience all attendees—given the nature of the theater presentation and the gracious donation of time by the presenters, we will maintain a zero-tolerance policy regarding disturbances during this portion of the program.   Anyone causing a disruption (i.e. loud or crying children, talking outside of the Q&A portion, texting) will be given one warning. A second incident will result in the individual being asked to leave the studio. For this reason the presentation is not recommended for children under the age of four. Thank you for your understanding. If you are visiting San Francisco and looking for a hotel, our partner the St. Regis Hotel, is offering a discounted rate for attendees of the event, click on the link for the discount offer. Pixar Animation Studios is located in Emeryville, California. Free parking is available on site. For more information, call 415-227-8666, ext. 300. To purchase tickets online, visit cartoonart.org. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Tickets are transferable, but nonrefundable.

Apologies for any inconvenience–this hasn’t been announced to our e-mail list yet. We just got permission to announce the event, and we do our best to limit our mass e-mailings to once a month.

This sounds like a wonderful event and I am glad to hear that it is physically accessible for persons with disability. Sadly, it is not accessible to my students who would LOVE to attend but could NEVER in their wildest dreams afford such a cost!! As a teacher of the disabled I would never be able to afford this either. I hope in the future you may have tickets given to those who would otherwise never be able to enjoy this experience. Thank you for listening.

Thanks for writing. Events like this are expensive, but they help us to offer low-cost and free events at the Cartoon Art Museum year-round. We hope that you’ll join us for an evening at the museum soon!

Peggy, Mark Andrews and Andrew Jimenez have given 2 presentations at the Cartoon Art Museum for only $5 or $10, I think. There’s something worthwhile if you keep up with CAM events.

Nothing else at Pixar in 2014, although there’s always a chance we’ll have some of their artists and animators visit the Cartoon Art Museum for special events. Ken Mitchroney, who worked on Toy Story, was a guest at our Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opening reception on June 14.

Thanks! We don’t know if we’ll have an event there in 2015 or not, but we’ll make sure to announce it on our website if we do.
