Title:
Research Librarian/Archivist
Description:
The research librarian/archivist position assists in managing the museum’s small research library and archives, including books, journals, videotapes, clippings, and other archival materials. The intern also evaluates the current cataloging system in order to recommend and implement improvements to better serve the needs of the staff and researchers. The intern must be self-motivated with enough education and/or experience to work independently with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Catalog newly acquired books, journals, archive materials, and documents
- Develop policies and procedures for processing, preserving, and accessing the research library and archives materials
- Create Finding Aids
- Maintain and update database
- Answer research questions
- Maintain clipping files
Requirements:
- Must be able to prioritize, stay organized while multi-tasking and enjoy detail-oriented work
- Excellent written communication skills
- Independent thinking and problem-solving
- Knowledge of FileMaker and Microsoft Office helpful
- Commitment of at least 8 to 20 hours a week for a minimum of three months.
- Student or graduate of a library/information services program and/or previous experience working in an archive or library setting preferred
